LRAC Lists Other Minnesota Organizations with Available Grant Opportunities

Fun fact: LRAC offers arts grants to individuals and organizations. You probably already knew that. But did you know that LRAC is also a resource for other arts granting opportunities available to Minnesotans in our nine-county region?

Every month, these opportunities are featured in our ArtsNews email (which you can subscribe to by clicking here), and also shared on our social media pages. If you have a project that doesn’t quite fit for an LRAC grant, here’s a roundup of granting organizations with opportunities that may be available to you!

Minnesota State Arts Board

The Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) is a state agency that stimulates and encourages the creation, performance, and appreciation of the arts in the state. MSAB offers grants to eligible Minnesota residents and organizations. They currently have two grant opportunities available:

  • For Individuals: Creative Support for Individuals
    This grant program provides support to help individual artists and culture bearers sustain their creative practices and meaningfully engage with their communities in a time of transition. Creative Support grants are designed to be flexible and allow for adaptable responses to unexpected changes during the grant period.

    While proposed grant activities may focus more heavily on one or the other, applicants must demonstrate how funds will be used both to continue a creative practice and meaningfully connect with and engage audiences, participants, students, and/or communities during the grant period.   • For Organizations: Creative Support for Organizations
    This grant program provides support to help organizations deliver arts programming and meaningfully engage their communities in a time of transition. While Creative Support grants are designed to be flexible and allow for adaptable responses to unexpected changes during the grant period, applicants will be asked to align their activities with one of three program outcomes that address the intent of the legacy amendment and the Arts Board's goals. The Arts Partnership

The Arts Partnership - Cultivating the community through the arts

The Arts Partnership is a local granting organization, representing all art forms in Fargo and West Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN. Their mission is to cultivate the community through the arts, which they accomplish by communicating about the arts, advocating for the arts and giving grants to artists and organizations making the community a vibrant place to live. They offer grants for both individuals and organizations, and their organization grant opportunity is currently available.

  • City Arts Partnership Grants
    The City Arts Partnership Grant program invests in the overall health and success of the Metro’s arts community and by extension, the health and success of our community at large. The program is funded by the Cities of Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo and by Sanford Health. Organizations should check the Project Support guidelines for eligibility.   Springboard for the Arts

Springboard for the Arts

Though based in the Twin Cities, Springboard for the Arts has an office in Fergus Falls that serves the artists of our region and beyond. Springboard offers a wealth of resources for artists, and is a go-to organization for artists with questions about advancing their careers. Their annual Fellowship for individual artists is now accepting applications.

  • Rural Regenerator Fellowship
    The Rural Regenerator Fellowship brings together eligible individual artists, makers, and culture bearers, grassroots organizers, community development workers, public sector workers and other rural changemakers who are committed to advancing the role of art, culture and creativity in rural development and community building.

    Fellows participate in two years of peer learning and exchange, receive ongoing support for their community work through 1:1 coaching and technical assistance, and receive an unrestricted $10,000 stipend. Click here for more information.

The Jerome Foundation

Jerome Foundation

The Jerome Foundation supports the creation, development, and presentation of new works by early career artists. The Foundation makes grants to vocational early career artists, and those nonprofit arts organizations that serve them, in all disciplines in the state of Minnesota and the five boroughs of New York City. A grant round for Individual artists is currently available.

  • Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship
    Jerome Hill Artist Fellowships support Minnesota and New York City-based artists across 8 artistic fields who generate new work that takes creative risks in expanding, questioning, experimenting with or re-imagining conventional artistic forms. Fellows receive $50,000 over two consecutive years ($25,000 each year) to support their time and expenses for the creation of new work, artistic development and/or professional artistic career development. McKnight Artist Fellowships

McKnight Artist Fellowships

The McKnight Artist Fellowships Program provides annual, unrestricted cash awards to outstanding mid-career Minnesota artists in 14 different creative disciplines. Program partner organizations administer the fellowships and structure them to respond to the unique challenges of different disciplines.

Currently the foundation contributes about $2.8 million per year to its statewide fellowships. Most of the spring applications have closed, but the Fellowship for Ceramic Artists is still available, and additional opportunities for other disciplines with fall applications will advertised in our monthly newsletter.

  • McKnight Fellowship for Ceramic Artists
    The McKnight Artist Fellowship for Ceramic Artists supports Minnesota ceramic artists who identify with any methodology: functional, sculptural, relational—all techniques are welcome. Two $25,000 grants are awarded annually. Click here for more information.

Arts Midwest

Arts Midwest

Arts Midwest is one of six nonprofit United States Regional Arts Organizations, and serves the nine-state region of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Arts Midwest promotes creativity, nurtures cultural leadership, and engages people in meaningful arts experiences, bringing vitality to Midwest communities and enriching people’s lives. They offer grants for organizations.

  • Arts Midwest GIG Fund (currently closed)
    Arts Midwest’s Grow, Invest, Gather (GIG) Fund provides financial support to arts organizations for rebuilding and re-imagining creative engagement in their communities. Funds are intended for organizations to build their capacity by having multiple points of access to support presenting performing and visual artists of high artistic merit, virtually or in-person. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)

Established by Congress in 1965, the National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency that is the largest funder of the arts and arts education in communities nationwide and a catalyst of public and private support for the arts. By advancing equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, the NEA fosters and sustains an environment in which the arts benefit everyone in the United States.

These grants tend to be the most competitive, given that they are available on a national level. It is usually a good idea to seek local funding first, on the state or regional level. The NEA offers grants for both organizations and individuals, and two organization grants are currently available.

  • Challenge America
    Support for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations. Challenge America features an abbreviated application, a robust structure of technical assistance, and grants for a set amount of $10,000. Click here for more information.

  • Grants For Arts Projects
    Grants for Arts Projects grants support artistically excellent projects that celebrate our creativity and cultural heritage, invite mutual respect for differing beliefs and values, and enrich humanity. Click here for more information.

(That’s us!) We have had an exciting year of giving grants to organizations and individuals, and we currently have one opportunity available for individuals: the LRAC Fellowship. Our next annual round of grant applications will start opening in July, so stay tuned for more opportunities for organizations and individual artists!

  • LRAC Fellowship
    Eligible individuals in the LRAC nine-county region may apply for the LRAC Fellowship, intended to recognize, reward & encourage an outstanding individual. The 2022 Fellowship is open to music and visual arts disciplines. Click here for more information.
