Astronaut-Artist’s Views of Earth Inspire New Textiles

Just in time for Earth Day…

Far-Out Fun for Fabric Artists

Smithsonian magazine announced this week a new line of fabrics inspired by images of the blue planet.

Karen Nyberg - daughter of Ken Nyberg, a popular sculptor from Vining, MN - is not only a former astronaut but also an accomplished artist whose creativity was fueled by her experiences in space.

Prior to retiring from NASA in March 2020, she participated in two missions to the International Space Station (ISS), in 2008 and 2013. She spent more than 180 days in space as a mission specialist and a flight engineer. Her “Earth Views” line of fabrics is based on 13 photographs she took while on the ISS.
