On May 17, 2022, the Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) Board awarded nine individual artists funding for the Career Development Grant rounds. The total amount of funding awarded was $16,600

The funding for the Career Development Grant comes from the McKnight Foundation. The McKnight Foundation’s arts program is founded on the belief that Minnesota thrives when its artists thrive. The McKnight Foundation supports working artists to create and contribute to vibrant communities.

Each grant application was thoroughly considered by the LRAC Board on the basis of the overall excellence of the artwork and demonstration of exceptional talent, the project’s contribution to the artist’s professional growth, and evidence of serious professional commitment. The projects awarded will take place over the coming year.

Enhancing the Careers of Local Artists

Awardees are individuals from LRAC’s nine-county region, coming from the communities of Moorhead, Barrett, Detroit Lakes, Dilworth, Fergus Falls, and Vining. We had a very diverse group of applicants, and while not everyone was funded due to the competitiveness of the round, we are excited for the projects that this grant will make possible.

Artists will engage in many career-building activities, including workshops, consultations with professionals in their fields, the purchase of new equipment, and even paying actors to stage a screenplay reading. A detailed list of the awardees and their projects is available by clicking here.

Apply for Upcoming McKnight-Funded Grants

Though the Career Development Grant is only offered once a year, the next McKnight-funded grant will be available beginning July 4, 2022. The Artist Quick Start has similar guidelines to the Career Development Grant, and is anticipated to increase to $1,000 this year (up from $750 in previous years).

Guidelines for eligibility for McKnight-funded grant programs can be found on the LRAC website at lrac4.org, and questions can be addressed to the LRAC office via phone at (888) 735-9622, email at lrac4@lracgrants.com, or by visiting us in the office at 133 S Mill St, Fergus Falls, MN, 56537.

We are thankful for the arts support we receive from the McKnight Foundation to make this programming possible, as well as the artists and organizations that make the Lake Region a wonderful place to be, and we congratulate once again the awardees of the 2022 Career Development Grant Round!
