Announcing Fall Legacy Grants for December 2021

LRAC Congratulates Awarded Organizations and Individuals

On November 16, 2021, the Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) Board awarded twelve different organizations and individuals funding for the Legacy Organization and Individual Grant rounds. The total amount of funding awarded to organizations was $73,405, and $17,486 to individuals (finalized as of December 7, 2021).

The funding for the Legacy Grant rounds comes from the Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. The purpose of this fund is to increase Arts Access, Arts Learning and Arts and Cultural Heritage opportunities for all Minnesotans. Each grant application was thoroughly considered by the LRAC Board on the basis of need for the project, merit and artistic quality, and the ability of the applicant to accomplish the project, and the projects awarded will take place over the coming year.

Upcoming Projects Funded by the Legacy Grant

Otter Cove Children’s Museum is home to the Maker Shop, a space for both children and adults to practice creativity and art. Their LRAC Fall Legacy Grant will help purchase inclusive materials including modified tools, and paint, crayons, and paper representing a wide variety of skin tones.

Awardees are individuals and organizations from LRAC’s nine county region, and their projects will take place in communities including Morris, Fergus Falls, Pelican Rapids, Moorhead, Barrett, Detroit Lakes, Perham, and Ulen. We had a very diverse group of applicants, and while not everyone was funded due to the competitiveness of the round, we are excited for the projects that this grant will make possible, including an introduction to opera concert, a street photography exhibit and workshop, two mural projects (one designed by 6th-graders), a week-long community film festival, and many more. A detailed list of the awardees and their projects is available by clicking here.

Now is the time to begin thinking about your application for the Spring Legacy Grant!

Looking to the future, there are more LRAC Legacy funds on the horizon. The Spring Legacy Grant round will open on Tuesday, January 10, 2022 and will have over twice the amount of funding available, with over $214,000 to award between Individuals, Organizations, and a Local Government.
