LRAC Announces FY23 Fall Project Grant Awardees

Seven Projects to Be Funded Through LRAC Grant Program

Lake Region Arts Council in Fergus Fall, MN is proud to announce the results of our Fall Project Grant Round which was held on October 18, 2022. $14,573 was awarded to seven projects to be held throughout LRAC’s nine-county region. Although the available amount to be awarded was $14,573, a total of $22,100 was requested. This Lake Region Arts Council Grant Program is funded through a Minnesota State Legislative appropriation.


Congratulations to Our Fall Project Grant Recipients!

To qualify for one of LRAC’s Project Grants, submitted activities must be directly involved in the creation, performance and/or exhibition of an artistic project. All artistic disciplines, including but not limited to art, dance, literary, and musical performances may apply. This type of grant is available to Arts Organizations, nonprofits with projects that have arts as their primary focus, local governments, and educational institutions located in our nine-county region.

Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra

Douglas County

The Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra will host different schools in a collaborative concert project in February, 2023.

The Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra will use the grant to support a collaborative music project, bringing youth musicians from six area high schools and the University of Minnesota Morris to participate in a day of workshops followed by a concert titled “Fire and Passion!”.

This musical and educational experience is scheduled to take place at Alexandria High School on February 11, 2023.


Grant County Prairie Wind Players

“Dickens by Candlelight” will have performances in Barreett and Evansville this December.

Grant County’s Prairie Wind Players will bring RS&C Productions, a production group from Florida, to present “Dickens by Candlelight” in December, 2022. The tour will begin with an acting workshop for 7-12 drama students on December 8 at Roosevelt Hall in Barrett, MN, and will be followed by a special performance for three area schools on December 9, as well as an evening performance.

An additional performance at Roosevelt Hall will be held on December 10, and the project will conclude with one Sunday performance on December 11 at the Railroad & 2nd Event Center in Evansville (hosted by Evansville Arts Coalition).


Pelican Rapids Multicultural Committee

The Pelican Rapids Multicultural Committee will continue the Voices and Visions of Resilience project with two exhibits.

The Pelican Rapids Multicultural Committee will conclude the Voices and Visions of Resilience project started in the summer of 2022 at the annual International Friendship Festival. Stories of resilience were an important aspect of community engagement at the Festival, as documented through digital video interviews and paintings. The organization collected paintings that individuals were invited to create telling their stories of resilience on a banner.

This project will format the banner into a displayable format, for exhibition as an installation at two venues, the Pelican Rapids Public Library and the Otter Tail County Historical Society.


Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County

The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County will use grant funds to host a jazz performance featuring the music of Dr. James Condell. James Condell Jazz Night will take place at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead on March 14, 2023, 5-7pm. Local jazz musicians will play selections of Condell’s arrangements and to play Condell's guitars.

From 5-6pm, jazz music will provide background while people go through the Ralph's exhibit in which Condell's music is featured. From 6-7pm will be presentation of the music with the jazz historical context provided between numbers, honoring Dr. Condell’s legacy of music in the region.


The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum

A woodcut from the “UNMASKED” series by Kathleen Ristinen.

The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum will tour "UNMASKED", a series of woodcuts by noted Minnesota printmaker Kathleen Ristinen, as a touring exhibition for three Lake Agassiz Regional Library branches: the Breckenridge Public Library, Detroit Lakes Public Library, and Moorhead Public Library.

"UNMASKED" is comprised of a selection of twenty large-scale woodcut prints which explore Ristinen's early life and family history growing up in rural west central Minnesota.


Evansville Arts Coalition

The Ring of Kerry Irish Band will perform in Evansville in November, 2022.

The Evansville Arts Coalition will present a performance of the Ring of Kerry Irish band in November, 2022. Ring of Kerry is a musical group based in Minnesota, playing Irish music on a variety of Celtic instruments, including whistles, flutes, guitar, hammered dulcimer, fiddle and bodhran. An Irish Step Dancers group will also perform.

The event will take place at the Railroad & 2nd Event Center in Evansville.


ActUp Theatre

A photo from director Craig A. Ellingson’s production of Godspell. Ellingson will direct THE PROM at ActUp Theater.

ActUp Theatre will present the award-winning musical THE PROM. The show will be held at Minnesota State University-Moorhead in late June 2023. THE PROM engages in contemporary issues in a musical comedy about LGBTQ acceptance.

Act Up is excited to premiere this show in Moorhead, to promote inclusion and acknowledge the capacity for open-mindedness even in conservative communities.

Don’t Forget to Apply for the Next Grant Round!

For eligible projects seeking grant funding towards an artistic endeavor, LRAC would encourage you to begin planning to apply for our Spring Project Grant Round which covers projects taking place during Summer, Fall and Winter of 2023. Arts organizations may apply for up to $3,000 per Project Grant application with a limit of $5,000 total for the fiscal year. Multiple applications are acceptable in each grant round. The 20% match has been suspended for this grant cycle in order to provide greater economic support to the arts in the region.

Grant Review: Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Grant Project Start Date: Projects may begin any time after April 19, 2023
